Victims of Crime Assistance
Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA) Program
The Tallahassee Urban League Victim Witness Program has existed in the heart of “Frenchtown” (a predominantly African American Area), since 1991 and is the only National Urban League Affiliate providing victim services in the country. The program provides free, direct, and confidential services to individuals residing in the Tallahassee and Leon County areas who are victims of a crime but have not reported the violation to a local law enforcement agency.
VOCA’s goals are:
- Support and aid victims of crime as they move through the criminal justice process
- Provide victims with assistance, services, and resource information
- Promote participation in the criminal justice system by educating victims about their rights; and to advocate for the enforcement of those rights; and,
- Coordinate with other community and victim services agencies to ensure continuity of support for the victims.
VOCA is operated with the highest degree of confidentiality to protect the identity of its clients to ensure maximum efficiency and outcomes without having the victim feel intimidated, threatened, or harmed. Clients can apply for these services by calling the Tallahassee Urban League.
